Human beings spend their lives in three orientations – lying, sitting and standing – and for those with impaired movement this can become complicated! Too often, the foundational orientation of lying is overlooked. Individuals with chronic or progressive motor disabilities often experience body shape distortion, related to habitual postures assumed both day and night.

The support of healthy lying postures is crucial for people who cannot change their position in bed easily, often and with variety. Unhealthy lying postures with poor body alignment may be noted but are often not routinely addressed in treatment planning. This webinar provides an evidence based overview of theory and practice with visual examples and longitudinal case studies to illustrate concepts underpinning posture care management, focusing on sleep and resting postures.
