2:45 pm - 3:45 pm
This session is part of the 2022 RESNA virtual conference
Muscle imbalances, joint limitations and other dynamics underlie posture asymmetries in lying that impact sitting. These complex interactions can be difficult to communicate effectively during time limited seating and mobility evaluations. Providing education in this area promotes understanding and teamwork to facilitate optimal seating and positioning outcomes. Explaining dynamics and strategies for accommodation and correction of posture problems is supported and simplified by using a three-dimensional, flexible model. The session will use a teaching tool to engage the audience in practicing and discussing various interventions.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Discuss the interaction of 3 forces impacting development of complex posture problems.
2. Explain the influence of the 3 multi-joint muscle groups impacting pelvic and whole body posture.
3. Describe 3 asymmetrical postures with accommodations or corrections using a simplified anatomical model.
